Project Green is a government agency in Malta dedicated to creating, regenerating, and maintaining parks, gardens, and other green spaces. Its mission is to ensure everyone has access to high-quality, sustainable recreational areas close to home. The agency collaborates with local councils, communities, and partners to transform underused areas into accessible, biodiverse, and environmentally friendly spaces that enhance quality of life. Project Green also conserves valleys through sustainable maintenance, expert-led conservation, and community-driven enhancements to foster thriving green environments for all.
Project Green is developing and restoring green spaces across Malta and Gozo, with the aim of having a park or open space just 10 minutes away from every home. These include community gardens, family parks, accessible playgrounds, and valley restoration projects.
You can explore all Completed and Work in Progress projects in the Projects section of our website. For a deeper look into our ecological efforts, you can also view our Valley Management Master plans.

Yes. Project Green regularly organises and hosts a variety of events in the public parks and gardens it creates. These events are designed to bring communities together, encourage people to make use of green spaces, and raise awareness about the environmental, social, and health benefits of spending time outdoors. Events are held throughout the year and often involve collaboration with local councils, NGOs, schools, and artists.
Project Green organises a wide range of events, from cultural and community gatherings to seasonal celebrations and educational initiatives. These include plugged concerts, outdoor cinema nights, Halloween-themed events in parks, biodiversity awareness sessions, planting activities, and family-friendly games. Events are tailored to reflect the unique character of each space and aim to engage people of all ages in meaningful, inclusive ways.
The Local Greening Programme is an initiative by Project Green aimed at creating and enhancing green spaces in Malta’s densely urbanised areas. By planting trees and shrubs, the programme transforms unused land into thriving ecosystems, improving environmental quality and community wellbeing.
Any landowner with an available plot of land who shares our commitment to a greener Malta is welcome to apply.
To join the programme, simply complete the site eligibility form by visiting Our Current Schemes page. Our Project Green team will review your application and contact you with the next steps if your site is eligible.
Plots of unused or underutilised land that can be converted into sustainable green areas, such as small gardens, community plots, or larger open spaces, are ideal.
Once your application is approved, our team will work with you to plan and carry out planting activities, ensuring the space is transformed into a lasting green asset for the community.
