Overview
The chosen candidate will be working on a range of small to large scale urban design and master planning projects within the Agency. The Project Design Architect will be working both individually and within a multi-disciplinary team in the preparation of architectural, urban, and landscaping design concepts through the preparation of concept plans, visual preparations, urban design guidelines and any other relevant associated supporting graphics. In addition to the strong urban design and graphic skills required for this position, successful candidates shall further support office functions through activities that include project communication, stakeholder coordination and project implementation assistance.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Responsibilities
• Assist the Head – Project Design with the development of comprehensive Master Plans of various infrastructural and public space projects.
• Cooperate actively with the Design Team to develop innovative design strategies for a wide range of projects coordinated by Project Green.
• Undertake research, mapping, and any relevant analytical activities in order to develop contextualised design concepts and strategies.
• Prepare high level planning documents including the formulation of Design Briefs, Parameter Plans, Design Codes and Policies, Access Statements, Mobility Plans, Landscape Strategies and Zoning Plans.
• Collaborating and engaging actively with public/private stakeholders to achieve integrated planning and optimal design outcomes.
• Collaborate with other units within the Agency particularly during project tendering and implementation.
• Assist in the review of various architectural and urban design proposals submitted by different stakeholders including public agencies, community groups, developers, architect firms, tenderers, and other private/public entities.
• To conduct other related and reasonable duties as required by the Head – Project Design.
• To assist in the formulation and articulation of policies and strategies through the development of detailed master planning.
• Conduct research on locally and internationally available materials in ensuring that design visions and strategies promote the use of sustainable materials.
Essential Skills
• Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills to be used to communicate alternative design solutions in a collaborate and positive manner.
• Demonstrated experience collaborating, negotiating, and resolving conflict related to urban design issues between stakeholders, the public, politicians, administration, and other levels of government.
• Ability to use and/or oversee use of computer aided tools such as SketchUp, Rhino, AutoCAD and Adobe Photoshop.
• High level of analytical and creative skills. Ability to explore creative and unique solutions to complex interpersonal, professional, technical and administrative problems.
• Knowledge in best practices of architectural design and knowledge of local planning and design legislation.
• Advanced knowledge of architectural and design principles and concepts, sustainable urban models and sustainable construction methods.
• Strong organisation, flexibility and coordination skills.
About You
Project Green is looking for a Senior Manager – Project Design Architect of the highest personal and professional integrity, principle, and knowledge. The Senior Manager – Project Design Architect needs to be a self-directed person with a strong work ethic and high expectations for performance.
The role requires the possession of a minimum of bachelor’s degree in Architecture/Urban/Civil Engineering (MQF Level 7) as recognised and certified by the Malta Qualifications Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC) or a related field. You will also possess a minimum of two (2) years relevant work experience in architectural design projects, and a driving licence Category B.
Warranted Architects or Civil Engineers will be preferred.
