80,000 square meters of land for people’s enjoyment​​

The communities will enjoy green open spaces with sixteen projects in locations around Malta and Gozo, projects that will give new life to the community, with 110,000 people will have these spaces a few minutes away from home, where they can study or work.

This was announced by Prime Minister Robert Abela in a news conference in Mosta, during which several projects were announced, as proposed by local councils and non-governmental entities, which will be carried out and completed by Project Green until 2025 with an investment of €10 million.

The Prime Minister explained that the Government is investing in eighty thousand square meters of land to be enjoyed as new open spaces, or spaces in a much better condition than they are today.

In his speech he reiterated that among these projects there are lands that could have been built, abandoned gardens, spaces between residential buildings, and lands outside the development boundaries abandoned; that with these projects they will all be transformed into places where children can run and play, workers can rest at the weekend and families can meet.

The choice of which project the Government should invest through the Community Greening Grant, it was made by the community itself.

These projects, which extend from the south of the country to Gozo, are all direct proposals of local councils and non-governmental organisations—elected or volunteer representatives who work daily among the communities.

Prime Minister Robert Abela claimed that these are projects of the people, for the people. Projects that also reflect the social heart of a government that will continue to make decisions for the country to move forward, because it is only a country that is moving forward that will be able to invest in these types of ‘ projects he referred to as just the beginning.

The Minister for Environment, Energy and Enterprise Miriam Dalli explained that this investment will give our communities 16 open spaces for the enjoyment of residents. She reiterated that the community greening grant is the most extensive scheme we have ever seen in our country for environmental projects so far. Minister Dalli also claimed that this investment is being made in the background of ongoing work on large projects, of which other new open spaces have already been opened. It concluded that through Project Green alone, from the beginning of this year until now, more than 32,000 square meters have been opened and regenerated. Minister Dalli said she looks forward to more sustainable and quality projects.
