GreenPak successfully concludes the ‘Batteries for Hospice’ school challenge
GREENPAK, a leading environmental organization, is announcing the successful culmination of its ‘Batteries for Hospice’ Schools competition. The challenge, which ran from 21st March to 15th June 2023, witnessed an overwhelming response from 100 primary and secondary state, private, and church schools across Malta. This initiative aimed to promote responsible battery recycling while raising funds for Hospice Malta.
Under the competition’s criteria, schools were evaluated based on the total weight of batteries collected per student. Thanks to the unwavering support of participating schools, over 3 tonnes of batteries were collected, making a significant impact on environmental sustainability and the health of Malta’s community. GreenPak provided battery bins to schools and covered the costs of collecting the batteries. Their effort not only promoted awareness about proper battery disposal but also contributed to the noble cause of supporting Hospice Malta. Mr Steve Ellul, CEO of Project Green, expressed his enthusiasm for the success of the ‘Batteries for Hospice’ campaign, stating, “We are thrilled with the overwhelming response and dedication shown by the schools towards a better environment.
The collective effort of the students, teachers, and administrators has made a significant difference in safeguarding our environment and supporting Hospice Malta. We commend the winning school, St. Nicholas College, Bahrija primary school, for their outstanding performance. We want to consult with both the management of the school and the kids themselves to give them an opportunity to decide on the type of greening project they would like to see in their school.” In recognition of their exceptional achievement, Project Green presented the award to St. Nicholas College, Bahrija primary school whose prize consisted of a greening project for the winning school. The presentation ceremony took place at the upcoming state-of-the-art St. Michael Hospice located in Sta. Venera. The representatives from Project Green, Hospice Malta, GreenPak Coop Society Ltd., and St. Nicholas College, Bahrija primary school were present to celebrate this momentous occasion.
Ms Alexia Demicoli, Chief Relations Officer of Hospice Malta, expressed her gratitude, stating, “We extend our heartfelt appreciation to GreenPak and Project
Green for their continued support in organizing this incredible initiative. The funds raised from the ‘Batteries for Hospice’ campaign will greatly contribute to the vital services Hospice Malta provides to patients and their families. We applaud the schools and students for their dedication to environmental responsibility and their contribution to our noble cause.” Ms Simone Attard, Head of School at St. Nicholas College, Bahrija primary school, expressed her pride in the students and staff, stating, “We are honoured to be recognized as the winning school in the ‘Batteries for Hospice’ Schools competition.
This achievement is a testament to the dedication and environmental consciousness of our students. We are grateful to GreenPak and Project Green for organising this initiative, which not only educated our students about responsible battery disposal but also instilled in them a sense of responsibility towards the environment and the community.” In addition to the award presentation, GreenPak will make a second donation to Hospice Malta, further strengthening and supporting the invaluable services they provide to patients and their families across the nation.
